About the distillery
Founded in 1830 by brothers Hugh and Kenneth MacAskill, the Talisker Distillery sits on the shores of Loch Harport on the Isle of Skye, one of Scotland's wildest and most spectacular landscapes. Long isolated, the distillery has taken advantage of its rugged maritime environment to create powerful, smoky, sea-salt whiskies that have become a true signature. For many years, Talisker remained Skye's only active distillery, embodying the island's identity in the world of whisky. Its malts are recognizable by their smoky, peppery character, often described as a "maritime explosion." The proximity to the ocean and the use of carefully selected casks explain this unique style, which intertwines notes of peat, spice, and ripe fruit. Since becoming part of the Diageo group, Talisker has modernized its facilities while preserving its artisanal heritage. The distillery still uses atypical swan-neck stills, which contribute to the richness and power of its single malts.
