Ardnahoe Bholsa 50% is a peated Islay single malt that showcases the modern craftsmanship of the island's youngest distillery. Aged primarily in Oloroso sherry casks , this Scotch whisky has been bottled at its natural 50% strength, without chill filtration or the addition of caramel, preserving all its authenticity. From the nose, it reveals a beautiful aromatic intensity: red and dried fruits (cranberries, figs, raisins), flambéed orange peel, roasted nuts and wood fire smoke. The palate, fleshy and delicious, expresses notes of dates, plums and toasted biscuits, enhanced by cinnamon and an elegant peppery peat. The finish, long and warm, combines candied fruits, black pepper, ginger and a lingering smoke typical of Islay. Produced by the Ardnahoe distillery, founded in 2017 by Hunter Laing & Co., Bholsa marks a decisive step in the growth of this house, which already attracts lovers of powerful and refined Islay whiskies . About the distillery

Ardnahoe Distillery is Islay's newest gem, opened in 2017 by family-owned Hunter Laing & Co , a renowned independent bottler based in Glasgow. Located north of Port Askaig, facing the Isle of Jura, it benefits from a spectacular natural setting and exceptionally pure water from Loch Ardnahoe. Its name, which means "height of the hollow" in Scottish Gaelic, reflects both its unique location and its roots in island tradition. Ardnahoe is distinguished by a set of rare technical features: a 1920 Bobby mill , long fermentations of 70 to 75 hours, and above all the longest swan necks in Scotland , reaching 7.5 meters, which allow prolonged contact of the vapors with the copper and give the whisky a very special elegance. The distillery also uses wooden cooling ponds , unique to Islay, as well as a traditional Savalle distillation column. The cask size is another major asset: Ardnahoe relies mainly on first-fill casks (notably Oloroso sherry and Pedro Ximénez), which give its malts rich and intense aromas. True to the vision of Jim McEwan, the legendary master distiller who oversaw its creation, the distillery chooses to bottle its single malts at a minimum of 50% ABV , without chill filtration or coloring, a guarantee of authenticity and aromatic power. Despite its youth, Ardnahoe is already considered a “New Islay Classic” by many experts. Its philosophy is to combine the iconic peated tradition of Islay with an artisanal and respectful approach to the terroir. Each bottle reflects the raw and refined character of the island, offering lovers of peated whiskies a new benchmark not to be missed.
