Plantation Rum 12 Years 2010 is a Jamaican rum made from a blend of two rums from New Yarmouth and Worthy Park Estate. The rums were aged for 5 years in ex-bourbon casks and then refined in France at Plantation in ex-cognac casks. This excellent rum, bottled at 61.40%, offers notes of hydrocarbons, white fruits (apple, pear) and strong spices (clove, nutmeg). It was bottled at cask strength and presented at Whisky Live Paris 2023. This is a very limited edition.
TASTING NOTE
Nose: Rich, powerful. Empyreumatic (rubber, turpentine), the initial nose quickly evolves into very fresh lemony, vanilla, and exotic (pineapple) tones. Upon aeration, the medicinal and camphorated palette reveals notes of rubber that evolve according to their mood.
Palate: Lively and full-bodied. On the palate, freshly cut cane releases its sugar, while freshly squeezed lemons irrigate the palate with their tangy juice. The mid-palate is very different, diffusing flavors of white fruits (apple, pear) and strong spices (clove, nutmeg).
Finish: Long, concentrated. Close to cane sugar, the start of the finish reveals itself to be exotic (pineapple, kaffir lime) and licorice. In the aftertaste, floral notes (geranium, iris, lily) are coated in a delicious acacia honey. The finish is powdery (rice), vegetal, and slightly aniseed.
THE BRAND
Plantation rums are divided into two distinct series: blends and vintages. The vintages in the Plantation range are an invitation to travel. From Jamaica to Barbados to Panama, each rum possesses local flavors characteristic of each country. The blends are blends refined by the cellar master of Maison Ferrand. Alexandre Gabriel, head of the Pierre Ferrand cognac house since 1989, created Plantation, a unique collection of rums he unearths in the Caribbean and Latin America, in 2003. The cane eaux-de-vie he selects benefit from a second maturation in the cellars of his Bonbonnet estate in Ars (Charente), and thus benefit from the talent of Alexandre Gabriel, a master in the art of aging. Since March 2017, Alexandre Gabriel has also been the owner of the West Indies Rum Distillery, based in Barbados, which has the distinction of producing rum continuously since the 19th century and is equipped with both column and pot stills.
