Octomore 15.3 is one of the most peated whiskies in the world. This Octomore is peated to 307.2 ppm, making it the second-most peated release in the Bruichladdich range. It is crafted from 100% Islay barley and matured in bourbon and oloroso sherry casks. You can expect notes of smoky and salted caramel, runny honey, and citrus, complemented by dried fruits and a hint of peat smoke. Very limited edition.
TASTING NOTE
Nose : Honey, smoky caramel, and rich Islay malted barley sugar come to the fore, balanced by fresh citrus. Dried fruits and crushed shells mingle with Octomore's heady peat smoke, with cloves, toasted nuts, and a hint of coconut adding depth and complexity. Butterscotch, brown sugar, and warm bread lead the way in this very grain-driven Single Malt.
Palate : With great strength and an exceptionally smooth texture, Octomore 15.3 is incomparably round and almost syrupy. Caramel and creamy vanilla enhance its smooth character, punctuated by dried fruits and sweet orange zest. The toasty oak and sugar provided by the locally grown barley are supported by waves of dry smoke.
Finish : Burnt sugar, coconut and delicate sea spray linger on the finish, with that sustained sensation of earthy peat smoke enticing you to explore this exceptional Single Malt.
THE BRAND
" Octomore is the world's most peated single malt," produced on the island of Islay by the Bruichaladdich distillery. Like other Islay whiskies, Octomore is a single malt with a strongly peaty aroma, "an iron fist in a velvet glove," summarizes the master distiller. Octomore takes its name from a farm located on the heights of Port Charlotte, which housed a small distillery in the early 19th century.
THE DISTILLERY
The Bruichladdich Distillery was built in 1881 by the Harvey brothers. The Harveys were a prominent whisky family, owning the Glasgow distilleries Yoker and Dundas Hill. The three brothers decided to combine their expertise to build a third distillery: Robert (23) designed it, John (31) had the distillery experience, and William (32) had the money. The brothers set about creating a revolutionary new type of distillery, and Bruichladdich was to be the antithesis of an Islay distillery. It was a modern distillery, ergonomically arranged around a central courtyard for efficiency and on a gentle slope to harness gravity—a state-of-the-art Victorian distillery. The Bruichladdich Distillery does not produce blends; it produces only single malts under three brands: Bruichladdich, Port Charlotte, a heavily peated single malt, and Octomore, the world's most peated whisky. Bruichladdich Distillery also owns Murray McDavid, an independent bottler.
