Redbreast 12 Year Old Cask Strength is the 58.10% cask strength version of the highly acclaimed Redbreast 12 Year Old. Bottled unchill-filtered and triple-distilled, it's stronger than its younger sibling. A unique, rich, and complex Irish whiskey, it's always full of flavor. It's characterized by aromas of red berries, malted barley, and spices, a result of its maturation in Oloroso Sherry casks.
TASTING NOTE
Nose : An explosion of fruit; figs, dates, ripe banana, sultana, red apple, and lime. Spices combine with vanilla and pine from the barrels.
Palate : Dried fruits, a touch of citrus with aromatic oils and spices. The sweetness of vanilla leads to toasted oak and barley.
Final : Extremely long, rich, the spices and fruits slowly disappear through the caramel and malted barley.
THE BRAND
Redbreast remains the pioneer of the Irish single pot still. Made from malted and unmalted barley, this brand's whiskies reveal an intriguing complexity. Distillation takes place in three different stills, then the whiskey is aged in former sherry and bourbon casks. Today, Redbreast is produced at the Midleton distillery in County Cork (alongside other great whiskies Powers, Green Spot, and Jameson). Redbreast represents the very best in Irish whiskey. DISTILLERY
It was in 1825 in Cork that the Murphy brothers founded what became the most renowned distillery in the country. The distillery produced a range of the "Midleton" brand and in 1966, the company joined forces with John Powers and John Jameson to form the Irish Distillers group. A new distillery was built in Midleton to produce all of their brands. This new distillery now has a capacity of 60m liters, following a major expansion project in 2013. It is the largest distillery in Ireland producing Irish whiskey. The old site now houses a museum dedicated to whiskey, the Jameson Experience. Midleton produces the Jameson, Powers and Midleton brands of course, but also Redbreast, Green Spot and Yellow Spot, Paddy and until 2010, Tullamore Dew. More recently, major financial efforts have been made to further increase the number of fermentation tanks and stills in particular. Today, the total production is around 65,000,000 liters of pure alcohol per year. This is thanks to 48 fermentation tanks, 7 pot stills, and 11 columns. In 1988, the Pernod-Ricard group acquired it.
