The 2013 Comtes de Champagne champagne is the flagship cuvée of Maison Taittinger. 2013 was an exceptional year, marked by the last harvest from October to this day. Once a tradition, this late harvest has become a rarity due to global warming. The winter that year was singularly very long and cold, unusual conditions. Then, in the spring and summer, the heat settled in until mid-August. It was then that the weather changed, becoming cooler and wetter, ideal conditions for refining the ripeness of the grapes and increasing the volume of the bunches. This vintage blanc de blancs champagne is composed exclusively of Chardonnay from the five Grands Cru villages of the Côte des Blancs: Avize, Chouilly, Cramant, Mesnil-sur-Oger, and Oger. These unique terroirs, where chalk outcrops, give the grapes an unparalleled minerality, power, and finesse. To make this great champagne, only the "cuvée" is selected, guaranteeing absolute finesse. Vinification is primarily carried out in stainless steel vats, but 5% of the wines spend four months in new oak barrels, a third of which are renewed each year. This method adds toasted notes to the final blend. The bottles then rest for ten years in the Maison's cellars, giving this vintage remarkable energy and exceptional aging potential. This brut champagne is distinguished by its clear, vibrant color, dotted with subtle golden highlights. The nose of this 2013 Comtes de Champagne from Taittinger is full-bodied and generous, revealing aromas of ripe citrus and pastry with great precision. From the start, the wine is lively, leading to an intense, saline, and mineral mid-palate. Delicate notes of ginger and licorice are revealed, accompanied by a fruity touch. This champagne has exceptional aging potential, which can extend for several decades.

THE BRAND
Taittinger is established on the ruins of ancient Benedictine abbeys that crafted the first wines as early as the 13th century. With a composition primarily based on Chardonnay, which gives it its distinctive character, Taittinger champagne has established itself on the world stage, with 70% of its production exported. However, it's not just the essential classics such as Brut Réserve, Prestige Rosé, and Brut Millésimé. There's also the world of the House's exceptional cuvées, including the prestigious Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs and Rosé, created in homage to the legendary Count of Champagne, Thibault IV. In 2005, the Taittinger group changed hands, passing into those of an American pension fund. However, the following year, Pierre-Emmanuel Taittinger, a staunch defender of the family legacy, took over the reins of the House with the support of Crédit Agricole du Nord Est in 2006. With an impressive 290-hectare estate, it produces between 5 and 5.5 million bottles of exceptional champagne each year. Its warehouse is filled with approximately 12 million bottles, demonstrating its constant commitment to quality and excellence. Maison Taittinger was the first to receive a High Environmental Value and Sustainable Viticulture in Champagne certificate. In 2027, it was certified High Environmental Value level 3 (HVE) and Sustainable Viticulture in Champagne (VDC) in 2017. It has also received a gold medal from the Decanter World Wine Awards, a bronze medal and Commended by the International Wine Challenge, and a silver medal from the IWSC.
