Papalin Rum: The Blends Signed by Velier by Luca Gargano
Papalin Rum is one of Luca Gargano's original creations for Velier, designed as a series of premium blends accessible to all connoisseurs. Launched in 2014, the first edition combines 3-year-old Cuban rum, solera-aged Venezuelan rum, and 10% 16-year-old Caroni, all matured in Scotland in Demerara and Caroni casks. This alchemy will set the tone: carefully crafted blends, marked by the Velier imprint. In 2022, Papalin will head to Jamaica with a 7-year-old Hampden/Worthy Park double blend, available in two versions: 47% and a precise full proof of 47.18%. The same year, the series explores Haiti by bringing together the Clairins Vaval, Sajous, Casimir and Le Rocher, associated with varied aging (Mount Gay, Caroni, Cognac, bourbon) for a 4-year-old vintage with an alcohol content of 53.1%. The end of 2022 marks a second Haitian opus: Sajous, Vaval and Casimir return in an even more gourmet profile, aged this time in oloroso sherry casks from the Lustau house. In 2024, the series is enriched with Papalin Réunion , a blend of several distilleries on the island, with rums at least 10 years old and a 50% bottling, considered one of Velier's best value for money. Papalin stands out for its philosophy: to offer blends of authentic and varied terroirs, while remaining easy to access and affordable at the time of their release. Each bottle reflects Velier's signature style and Luca Gargano's unique approach to rum selection and aging. While speculation has already begun to affect some editions, Papalin remains an ideal gateway to the Velier universe and a must-have for any lover of blends crafted with precision and transparency.
