About the distillery
Michel Couvreur is a leading name in the world of high-end artisanal whisky. Founded by Michel Couvreur, a Belgian wine and spirits enthusiast, the brand has distinguished itself since the 1970s with its unique approach: aging Scottish whiskies in Sherry and Port casks in Burgundy cellars. These galleries, carved into the rock in Bouze-lès-Beaune, in the heart of the vineyard, provide exceptional conditions for the slow and natural maturation of rare spirits. Unlike traditional distilleries, Michel Couvreur does not produce its own whisky, but meticulously selects young distillates in Scotland. These “new-make spirits” are then transported to France and placed in old casks, often centuries old, for a long and controlled maturation. Each cask is individually monitored, and each bottling is done by hand, without chill filtration or the addition of additives. The result is striking: round, deep, elegant whiskies, with profiles often marked by notes of dried fruits, chocolate, leather, hazelnut or even blond tobacco. The very varied range is aimed at lovers of sherry bombs, single casks and subtle peats like Candid . Since the death of Michel Couvreur in 2013, the house has been taken over by his family and his cellar master, who perpetuate the legacy with integrity and passion. Today, Michel Couvreur is synonymous with refinement , singularity and artisanal tradition , sought after by connoisseurs around the world.
