Tasting notes

Nose: Intensely peaty , the smoke imposes itself first before giving way to notes of fresh herbs (fern, wild mint) and liquorice .
Palate: The smoke lingers throughout the tasting, accompanied by a peppery touch (white pepper, green pepper) and a sweet vanilla note in the background, providing a nice balance.
Finish: Long, smoky and spicy, with accents of green pepper and ginger that prolong the complexity, on a subtly woody background.

Pairings and tasting moments

To be enjoyed as a refined aperitif , served neat or on a small ice cube to slightly temper the peat. Ideal with mature Corsican cheeses (dry brocciu, Tomme de Sari) to balance the smoky intensity. As a smoked digestif , accompany a grilled full-bodied black pork fillet or duck breast with prunes to bring out the peaty complexity. Product History

P&M Single Malt Tourbé is the new peated expression from Domaine Mavela in Corsica. The result of a blend of peated malts (between 20 and 40 ppm) brewed by the Pietra brewery, this whisky has benefited from aging in ex-white wine and muscat casks from Domaine Gentile , in Patrimonio. This combination gives a unique aromatic signature: peat dominates while blending with vegetal and spicy notes. A rare edition, limited to 1,700 bottles, P&M Tourbé demonstrates Mavela's desire to push the boundaries of Corsican whisky, exploring the smoky world while drawing on the island's winemaking heritage.

The brand

The Mavela distillery is located on the eastern plain of Corsica, near Aleria . Founded in 1999 in partnership with the Pietra brewery, it inaugurated the first Corsican P&M whisky, aged in two-hundred-year-old oak barrels that had contained the island's finest wines. Internationally acclaimed (Whisky Bible 2014), P&M continues to explore new expressions, such as this Peated Single Malt , which combines the tradition of peated malt with the richness of Corsican wine. The pure water of the Col Saint-Georges guarantees exceptional quality, while the Mediterranean terroir infuses each vintage with a unique identity.

About the distillery

The Mavela distillery is located in the eastern plain of Corsica, a few kilometers from Aleria , taking advantage of the Mediterranean climate and pure water coming from the Col Saint-Georges at more than 1,000 meters above sea level. In collaboration with the Pietra brewery, Mavela launched the first Corsican whiskey in 1999, combining artisanal tradition and wine heritage.

The copper stills allow for a slow double distillation, preserving the malty aromas. The cellars house two -hundred-year-old oak barrels that have contained prestigious Corsican wines (white wines, muscats, etc.), promoting a slow and nuanced maturation. Mavela innovates by experimenting with different blends, such as Tourbé, drawing on the diversity of Corsican grape varieties and the island climate. Each edition is produced in limited quantities , allowing for rigorous artisanal control, from the choice of malts to bottling, thus reflecting the authenticity and excellence of the Corsican terroir.
