THE BRAND
Redbreast remains the pioneer of Irish single pot stills. Made from malted and unmalted barley, their whiskeys reveal an intriguing complexity. Distillation takes place in three different stills, followed by aging in former sherry and bourbon casks. Today, Redbreast whiskey is produced at the Midleton Distillery in County Cork (alongside other great whiskeys, Powers, Green Spot, and Jameson). The Redbreast brand represents the very best in Irish whiskey. Learn more
DISTILLERY
It was in 1825 in Cork that the Murphy brothers founded what became the most renowned distillery in the country. The distillery produced a range of the "Midleton" brand and in 1966, the company joined forces with John Powers and John Jameson to form the Irish Distillers group. A new distillery was built in Midleton to produce all of their brands. This new distillery now has a capacity of 60m liters, following a major expansion project in 2013. It is the largest distillery in Ireland producing Irish whiskey. The old site now houses a museum dedicated to whiskey, the Jameson Experience. Midleton produces the Jameson, Powers and Midleton brands of course, but also Redbreast, Green Spot and Yellow Spot, Paddy and until 2010, Tullamore Dew. More recently, major financial efforts have been made to further increase the number of fermentation tanks and stills in particular. Today, the total production is around 65,000,000 liters of pure alcohol per year. This is thanks to 48 fermentation tanks, 7 pot stills, and 11 columns. In 1988, the Pernod-Ricard group acquired it.
