McConnell's was founded in Belfast in 1776 by two brothers, John and James McConnell. It is known to be Ireland's oldest whiskey brand and distillery and was one of the most iconic whiskeys for over 150 years. In 1899, demand grew, and the McConnell family opened a new distillery and brewery. The early 20th century was a critical period. Two huge fires occurred. The losses were crushing, but the brand held its head high. Unfortunately, Prohibition in the United States would eventually bring down Cromac Distillery. A century passed before the Belfast Distillery Company took the gamble of restoring the legend. It was then 2020, and the McConnell's Irish Whiskey brand was born. Yes! Whiskey without the -e. And for the first time, this product would bear the name of its creators.
