RENEGADE 3 Years 2020 is a pure cane juice aged rum from Mark Reynier's pioneering, terroir-driven distillery on the island of Grenada. Crafted from Lacalome Red and Yellow Lady sugarcane, this small batch of Renegade was aged in three different types of barrels: French oak (17%), ex-bourbon barrels (60%), and new American oak barrels (23%). Bottled by Vélier, this aged rum was pot still distilled in 2020 and bottled in 2023. The congener content is 466.4 g/hlap. The angels' share is over 8%. Minty, the attack on the palate is spicy (curry, cardamom, cinnamon), rooty (ginger), and syrupy (warm cane sugar). On the mid-palate, vanilla pods and dark chocolate chips create the perfect pairing. A very pleasant, gourmand bitterness. The finish is long and smooth. The start of the finish is deliciously tannic and fibrous (cane). The saline aftertaste is stewed (apple), saffron, and autumnal (moss). On the finish, artichoke background flavors soften the taste palette.
