Founded in 2000, Compass Box is a small house that creates blends. John Glaser , its leader, defined his profession as a "whiskymaker," a word coined to describe this whisky manufacturer specializing in blending whiskies purchased from renowned distilleries. This small, artisanal house distinguishes itself from other blenders by offering only four or five fully traceable blended whiskies with unique and surprising characters. A superb example of their methodology is Compass Box Hedonism. It is a marriage of eight to fifteen different grain whiskies, most of which are over twenty years old. Hedonism was announced as the world's best grain whisky at the 2008 World Whisky Awards. John Glaser , who was previously International Marketing Director at Johnnie Walker, has himself been featured four times in Whisky magazine as Innovator of the Year.
