Palate : Notes of warm leather, cooked rhubarb, smoky peat and a wonderful vanilla sweetness.

Finish : Rich and lingering. Caramel and a touch of ash.

Hunter Laing was created in 2013 following the separation of the Laing brothers, heirs to the assets of Douglas Laing & Co., founded by their father just after the Second World War. Fred Laing retained the Douglas Laing name, passed the company on to his daughter Cara Laing, and founded his own distillery in the Lowlands. Stewart, for his part, was joined by his two sons, Scott and Andrew, who incorporated their own bottling company, Edition Spirits, under the Hunter Laing name. Stewart earned his stripes at major brands such as Grant & Co. and distilleries such as Bruichladdich before joining his father and brother. The company retained its original assets, including the Old Malt Cask, Sovereign (grain whisky), and House of Peers collections. A year after its founding, it developed a range of young whiskies called Hepburn Choice. While releasing a new single malt from an unknown Islay distillery in 2018, under the name Scarabus, the group continued to build its own distillery on the same Hebridean island, Ardnahoe. The first cask was filled on November 9, 2018.
