Botran N°18 Solera is a blend of 5 to 18 year old rums from Guatemala . It is aged using the Solera method in casks that previously held sherry, port, and bourbon. This gives it sweet notes of vanilla and caramel, supported by spices. The rum itself is distilled from virgin sugarcane honey, so it tastes sublime!
TASTING NOTE
Nose: Notes of caramel, cinnamon toasted bagels, and a hint of oak. The nose then develops into peach and roasted chestnut.
Palate: An exquisite balance of toasted wood and fruity sweetness. Elegant and vanilla-forward, it also offers notes of cinnamon cookies, nutmeg, and ginger.
Finish: Long and very spicy.
THE BRAND
The origins of Botran rum date back to the early 20th century, when the family stopped distilling in Spain and emigrated to Guatemala. There, the five Spanish brothers—Venancio, Andres, Felipe, Jesus, and Alejandro Botran—discovered the ideal climate for slowly aging rum. This discovery led the brothers to form Industria Licorera Quezalteca in 1939. All the sugarcane used in Botran rums comes from their family estate in Retalhuleu, in southern Guatemala. This location is perfect for growing sugarcane thanks to its clayey, volcanic soils that receive constant sunshine. Botran's aged rums undergo a slow and laborious aging process in the mountains of the Guatemalan highlands, using the famous Solera system. This system involves carefully blending young and older rums to age together for years. Botran is a unique, rich and complex rum to discover.
