Midleton: the beating heart of Irish whiskey
Founded in 1825 in Cork by the Murphy brothers, the Midleton distillery quickly established itself as a leading name in Irish whiskey. Its history took a decisive turn in 1966, when it merged with Jameson and Powers to form the Irish Distillers group. A new, state-of-the-art distillery was then built in Midleton, marking the beginning of an era of modernization and large-scale production. Today, Midleton is the largest distillery in Ireland, with an impressive production capacity of 65 million liters of pure spirit per year . Equipped with 48 fermentation tanks , 7 pot stills and 11 columns , it embodies the perfect fusion of artisanal tradition and modern technology. Midleton produces some of the most iconic Irish whiskeys in the world: Jameson, Redbreast, Green Spot, Yellow Spot, Powers and many others . Since 1988, the distillery has been part of the Pernod Ricard group, which has allowed it to invest heavily to further increase its capacity and global reach. Its former site, beautifully preserved, now houses the Jameson Experience , a captivating museum dedicated to the history of Irish whiskey.
