Tobermory: the malted pearl of the Isle of Mull

Founded in 1798 by John Sinclair as Ledaig , the Tobermory distillery is the only one operating on the Isle of Mull, Scotland. With a capacity of around one million liters per year , it is renowned for its authentic single malts that perfectly reflect the island's terroir. Unlike Tobermory, Ledaig is a peated whisky, produced from malted barley that has undergone a heavily peated malting process. During this process, the burning peat dries the barley, which imbues the grains with a distinctive aroma of smoke and peat . This characteristic persists throughout the production stages, from malting to fermentation and distillation, resulting in a powerful and recognizable single malt. The Tobermory distillery is now owned by the South African group Distell , also known for renowned blends such as Black Bottle, Three Ships and Scottish Leader . Tobermory offers a complete range, from sweet and fruity single malt to Ledaig peaty malt, appealing to lovers of authenticity and diversity. Whether you are a novice or a connoisseur, Tobermory offers a unique taste experience, embodying the wild and maritime character of Mull, an island steeped in history and traditions dating back thousands of years.
