BLADNOCH WHISKEY: A HISTORICAL LOWLAND WHISKEY

Founded in 1817, Bladnoch Distillery is the most southerly distillery in Scotland, located in the Lowlands. It draws its pure water from the Bladnoch River, which rises at Loch Maberry in Kirkcowan. From its beginnings, Bladnoch was a leading distillery, founded by the McClelland brothers, John and Thomas, with the ambition of producing high-quality whiskies. After flourishing throughout the 19th century, the distillery sadly ceased production in 1905. However, the distillery was revived several times over the decades, changing hands several times, before being acquired in 2015 by David Prior, an Australian entrepreneur who made his fortune in the food industry. With the purchase of the distillery and over 2,500 casks, David Prior breathed new life into Bladnoch by resuming whisky production in full respect of Scottish tradition.
