Yamazaki: the pioneer of Japanese whisky from Suntory

Founded in 1923 , the Suntory Yamazaki distillery is located in the Yamazaki Valley at the foot of Mount Tennozan, near Kyoto. This site benefits from an ideal environment for whisky production, with optimal humidity and excellent water quality from Japanese soils, essential elements for the unique character of Yamazaki whiskies. Shinjiro Torii, founder of Suntory, launched Yamazaki whisky in 1929, becoming one of the fathers of Japanese whisky. His vision was to create a spirit suited to the Japanese palate while appealing to connoisseurs worldwide. Today, Japan is the world's third-largest whisky market, with Yamazaki leading the way as the most popular single malt in the country. Yamazaki whisky has gained international acclaim, notably thanks to the prestigious Gold Award at the 2003 International Spirits Challenge for its 12-year-old version. Renowned for its finesse, aromatic complexity and elegance, Yamazaki continues to fascinate amateurs and experts across more than 25 countries.
