MILLONARIO RUM: PERUVIAN HERITAGE BETWEEN TRADITION AND SOLERA XO
Millonario rum was born in northern Peru, on the Chiclayo hacienda, and carries within it more than a century of family heritage shaped by perseverance and vision. While the Millonario brand was formalized in 1950, its roots date back to 1904, and it is thanks to the investment of the Piera de Castillo family—including sending Augusto to Cambridge to study chemistry and bringing back a copper distillation column and a roller mill—that production took on a truly mastered dimension. After decades of discreet development, the brand exploded onto the international scene from 2004 thanks to the discovery by Fabio Rossi, who launched it via Rum Nation, opening the doors to demanding enthusiasts and prestigious collections. Millonario is distilled from molasses and sugarcane growing in volcanic soil, which brings a mineral depth and a singular aromatic richness. The Scottish-made copper column lends finesse and balance, while the house has its own cooperage where former sherry and bourbon casks are reclaimed for aging. Only its XO Solera version benefits from a sophisticated solera system, blending rums with an average age of between 12 and 20 years, to deliver a smooth, complex, and enveloping profile, with notes of vanilla, caramel, candied fruit, and sweet spices. Its bottle, recognizable by its Panama hat-style straw packaging, is both a symbol of authenticity and an object of desire on a shelf or as a gift. Now widely distributed throughout the world, Millonario embodies the perfect marriage of a rich Peruvian history, a mastered aging technique, and a refined taste identity, capable of seducing both pure and collected.
