Champagne Haton: family heritage and refined elegance from the Marne Valley
Champagne Haton traces its roots to the early 17th century, with François Haton purchasing the first vines in Damery in 1610. Passed down from generation to generation, this family business has cultivated a rare balance between respect for the Marne Valley terroir and winemaking excellence. In 1928, under the leadership of Octave Haton, the family took a decisive turn by vinifying its own champagnes, thus asserting its independence and stylistic signature. The Champagne Haton style is based on precise precision and extensive aging. The cuvées in the Élégance collection benefit from élevage exceeding regulatory requirements, while the Extra cuvées can age for up to eight years, developing an unusual aromatic harmony: lively freshness, saline tension, and subtle roundness combine to deliver a complex and nuanced palette of expression. At Damery, the vineyards are cultivated with particular attention to the terroirs, and Pinot Meunier occupies a central place in the blend, bringing suppleness, fruitiness, and controlled maturation. The family continually adjusts the proportions of the base wines for each cuvée, ensuring that each vintage or blend reflects both the personality of the year and the continuity of the Haton style. The cellar, under the direction of Sébastien Haton, is a veritable blending workshop where grape varieties, terroirs, and years are combined. This meticulous work creates cuvées such as the Cuvée Classique, the Rosée, and the Réserve, each of which embodies a distinct facet of the house: elegance, precision, and depth. The prolonged and attentive aging in the cellar brings texture, refined length, and a sense of controlled tension. Champagne Haton is an invitation to savor a champagne that is both lively and structured, capable of being subtle as an aperitif or as an accompaniment to refined dishes. Centuries-old heritage, rigor in production and creativity in blending make each bottle an authentic expression of the Marne Valley and family know-how.
