CARDHU WHISKY: THE STORY OF AN ICONIC SPEYSIDE WHISKY
Founded in 1811 by John Cumming, a renowned whisky smuggler, Cardhu Distillery is a key player in the history of Scotch whisky. Located on the northern banks of the River Spey in Moraytown, Cardhu overlooks the imposing Ben Rinnes mountain, a magnificent setting for the production of its exceptional whisky. Following the introduction of the Excise Act in 1823, John Cumming was granted legal permission to distill, thus ending his illegal smuggling business. Cardhu thus became one of the first legal distilleries in Scotland, alongside The Glenlivet. Today, Cardhu is one of the most popular and best-selling whiskies in the world, in part due to its distinctive Speyside profile, characterized by fruity and malty flavors. It is also a key component in the blend of the famous Johnnie Walker whiskies, contributing to its global reputation. This exceptional whisky continues to seduce whisky lovers from around the world, thanks to its perfect balance between smoothness and richness, embodying the heritage of Speyside and the excellence of Scottish distilling.
