About the distillery
The Montebello distillery, formerly known as Carrère, was founded in 1930 in Petit-Bourg, in the heart of Guadeloupe. After a gradual decline until 1968, Jean Marsolle and his son Alain revived the business by modernizing the facilities. In 1975, the distillery took the name Montebello and became the third major rum producer on the island. Since 2012, Grégory Marsolle, representing the fourth generation, has run the family business. He has reinforced the eco-responsible approach: sugarcane bagasse is recycled as fuel, and the distillery uses an original technique to accelerate aging by placing oak barrels in metal containers , creating a unique process that contrasts with the traditional search for reducing the angels' share. Montebello excels in the production of authentic agricultural rums , reflecting the richness of its Guadeloupean terroir and the artisanal know-how passed down from generation to generation. Each vintage, from white rum to aged vintages, bears the imprint of a refined tradition and a demand for quality.
