Nestled in the hills of Petit-Bourg, the Montebello distillery, built in 1930, illustrates the strength and continuity of independent distilleries in Guadeloupe. Taken over in 1966 by Jean Marsolle and his son Alain, then passed on to the fourth generation with Grégory and Dominique, Montebello embodies a living family heritage where tradition is combined with the progressive modernization of equipment since the official marketing of rum in 1975. The house is distinguished by its ability to overcome eras and crises, in a context where agricultural distilleries have become rare: from more than a hundred in 1900 to a handful today, Montebello remains a resilient family structure.
