About the distillery
The Héritiers Madkaud house has its origins in 1895 in Carbet, on the north Caribbean coast of Martinique. Founded by Félicien Madkaud, son of former freed slaves, it embodies five generations of Martinican history around agricultural rum . Initially produced in their own distilleries, Madkaud rums have been developed since 1977 in partnership with the best producers on the island. The Castelmore cuvée pays homage to the Habitation Fond Capot , the first site of the family's establishment, marked by the historical figure of Jean-Charles de Baas-Castelmore, governor of the French Antilles under Louis XIV. Since 2007, the “Héritiers Madkaud” range has been developed under the leadership of Stéphane Madkaud with the support of oenologist Marc Sassier, pursuing the ambition of an authentic, refined and committed rum.
