Oban's Distillers Edition was born from the desire to enhance the already distinctive character of this coastal single malt. After 14 years of maturation in new oak casks, Oban chose to entrust the final stage to Montilla Fino Sherry casks, selected for their ability to bring out nuances of dried fruit and nuts, while respecting the delicacy of the malt. First introduced in the 1990s, the Distillers Edition is distinguished by this double aging: a long stay in classic oak, then a finish that reveals new aromas. This limited edition was designed for enthusiasts looking for a whisky that is both distinguished and refined, where the maritime influence of Oban meets the elegance of Andalusian Sherry. Each year, a specific batch of Fino casks is chosen to ensure quality consistency, making the Distillers Edition an essential reference for discovering the aromatic depth of Oban.

Founded in 1793 by brothers John and Hugh Stevenson, the Oban distillery is one of the oldest in the region, perched on the west coast of Scotland opposite the Isle of Mull. Despite its modest size (only two stills), Oban has built a reputation for its unique style, blending malty sweetness with maritime influences. Integrated into the Diageo group via the Distillers Company Limited, Oban remains true to its roots, producing approximately 700,000 liters of pure spirit per year, exclusively single malt. About the distillery

The Oban Distillery was established in 1793 on the west coast of Scotland, halfway between the Highlands and the Hebrides, in a small port town of the same name. Founded by John and Hugh Stevenson, Oban quickly gained notoriety thanks to its whisky, which was both smooth and full-flavored . The arrival of the railway in 1888 facilitated the transport of malt and coal, speeding up production. During the Second World War, Oban port became an important base for the Royal Navy. The distillery remained in the family until 1866, when it was taken over by John Walter Higgin, who rebuilt it to its present form. In 1898, Alexander Edward (already owner of Craigellachie and Aultmore) took over, followed by blender John Dewar (1923–1925). Today, Oban is part of the Diageo group, yet retains its unique charm. With only two stills and an annual production of around 700,000 liters, Oban remains a small-scale distillery, where each batch is carefully crafted. The malt is partially peated and dried over a peat fire, imparting the subtle smoky notes that, combined with the maritime climate, create Oban's inimitable style. The pure local water and salt air also contribute to forging this character. Maturation takes place primarily in American bourbon casks, then certain batches, such as the Distillers Edition, are finished in Fino Montilla Sherry casks, imparting a delicate woody and fruity character.
