Launched in 2018, Old Pulteney 15 Year Old joins the iconic Old Pulteney range alongside the Huddart 12 Year Old and 18 Year Old expressions. Celebrating the distillery's maritime character, this 15 Year Old is aged first in American Bourbon casks and then finished in carefully selected Oloroso Sherry casks . The approach aims to capture the natural richness of the malt while retaining the characteristic salty influence of the coastline. The result of careful selection and time-honoured craftsmanship, Old Pulteney 15 Year Old reflects the perfect balance of sweet delicacies (dried fruit, honey) and invigorating citrus notes, illustrating the renowned character of this coastal Highland distillery.

Founded in 1826, Old Pulteney Distillery is one of Scotland's northernmost distilleries, located in the fishing village of Wick on the north coast. Renowned for its single malts with salty, wild flavors, it has preserved its heritage while innovating. Acquired in 1995 by Inver House and later integrated into the Thai Beverage group, Old Pulteney produces approximately one million liters of pure spirit per year with just two stills. The whiskies are aged primarily in Bourbon casks, stored in coastal cellars ventilated by the sea air, giving each expression its own unique character.

About the distillery

The Old Pulteney Distillery was established in 1826 by James Henderson in the small port of Wick , on the northeast coast of the Highlands. Deeply influenced by its location between sea and mountains, it is renowned for producing single malts with a distinctive maritime style. The pure water used comes from local springs that wind through the surrounding hills. Originally owned by the Henderson family until 1920, the distillery has gone through several phases of activity, including a closure from 1930 to 1959. Reopened following major renovations, it was acquired by Inver House in 1995 and subsequently integrated into the Thai Beverage group, ensuring modernized craftsmanship while respecting tradition.

With just two copper stills, Old Pulteney distills slowly to preserve the distinctive floral and fruity aromas of coastal Speyside. Matured primarily in American Bourbon casks , some expressions are then finished in Sherry (oloroso) casks to add spicy and fruity nuances. Its warehouses hold around 30,000 casks , constantly aerated by the sea air, giving the whiskies a unique salty note. With an annual production of around one million liters of pure spirit, Old Pulteney remains a small-scale distillery, where each batch is carefully monitored to deliver an authentic single malt, imbued with the coastal breeze and the centuries-old history of Wick.
