PIPER-HEIDSIECK - Rare 2013 perfectly embodies the house's signature, offering unlimited potential for growth, youth, and complexity. 2013 is considered one of the finest years in Champagne in recent memory. After a cold winter and spring, punctuated by chaotic rainfall, the summer brought sunshine, drought, and storms. A sudden change in weather conditions occurred in September: a cool autumnal climate set in, accentuated by powerful winds, forcing the harvest to begin late in October. 2013 was undoubtedly an exceptional year in Champagne. The Rare cuvée is made from 70% Chardonnay and 30% Pinot Noir. They come exclusively from Grands and Premiers Crus. The bottles are aged on lees for a minimum of 10 years. This process elevates and amplifies the aromatic bouquet of the champagne. Visually, the intensity of the crystalline gold color is reminiscent of a yellow diamond, dotted with a fine and joyful effervescence. On the nose, the vintage initially reveals a straightforward purity. Under the influence of ambient temperature in the glass, the bouquet unfolds with infinitely fragrant accords of orange blossom, hyacinth, and white flowers. Then, it opens with notes of vanilla flower, fresh coconut, Williams pear, fresh almond, mandarin orange, and blackcurrant bud. A second nose reveals a refined and saline minerality, signing an iodine-smoky harmony enhanced by a hint of licorice. On the palate, the aromatic sensations gradually unfold, revealing notes of fresh pineapple, passion fruit, kiwi, coconut, and tangy citrus fruits. The remarkable, iodine-laced finish, punctuated by salinity, prolongs this discovery of a pure and infinite spring.
“Rare, it’s all in the word. A demand for beauty, a sought-after perfection, an expression of the exceptional. It’s a style, our signature.” — Maud Rabin,

THE BRAND
Piper Heidsieck is a champagne house founded by Florens-Louis Heidsieck on July 16, 1785, in Reims. After the death of founder Florens-Louis Heidsieck in 1828, the company was taken over by his nephew Christian Heidsieck and his cousin Henri Guilaume Piper. They joined forces to form Piper-Heidsieck after Henri Piper married Christian Heidsieck's widow in 1838. In 2019, Piper Heidsieck was the champagne served at the Academy Awards. "We have a five-year partnership with the Academy Awards and are particularly pleased to be pouring Piper-Heidsieck Brut for the 91st ceremony," said Benoit Collard, CEO of Piper-Heidsieck. The House's signature cuvée is the non-vintage Cuvée Brut, round and vibrant, which recalls the rich variety of its blend of 100 crus from across the Champagne vineyards.
