Opthimus Rum: The Cuban-Dominican Heritage of Oliver & Oliver
Opthimus rum is one of the jewels of the Oliver & Oliver trading house, heir to a two-hundred-year-old family tradition. It all began in the 19th century with Don Juanillo Oliver, a Spanish colonist established in Cuba, who founded a company dedicated to rums and cigars. His expertise gave rise, in 1870, to the recipe that would serve as the basis for the current Opthimus 15 Year Old . After the Cuban revolution, the family left the island and settled permanently in the Dominican Republic, taking this precious recipe with them. It was in the 1980s that a descendant undertook research into the family archives and rediscovered the original blend of Don Juanillo Oliver. From this began a new era: the family founded its own distillery in Santo Domingo, where more than 3,000 barrels sleep today, patiently refining the different expressions of the Opthimus range. Aged using the solera method, Opthimus rums are distinguished by their characteristic smoothness and gourmet profile. With an alcohol content deliberately kept between 38% and 43%, they seduce with their accessibility and roundness, offering notes of caramel, vanilla and dried fruits, perfect for pure tasting. Symbolizing a cultural bridge between Cuba and the Dominican Republic, Opthimus embodies an elegant and refined style of rum, where family history meets the art of blending and aging. A must-have for solera lovers and palates in search of smoothness and balance.
