DEANSTON WHISKY: THE STORY OF A HISTORIC HIGHLAND DISTILLERY

Deanston Distillery, founded in the late 1960s, has a unique history dating back to the late 18th century, when the original buildings were used for cotton manufacturing. Located near the town of Doune, southwest of Perth, this former spinning mill was converted into a distillery in 1966. The water used for production comes from the nearby River Teith, and the site's cool, damp atmosphere is ideal for aging malt whisky. Deanston is known for its artisanal production of malt whisky, and around 15% of its output is bottled as single malt, with the remainder reserved for blends. In fact, the distillery produces around 3 million liters of whisky annually from its two wash stills and two steam-fired spirit stills. With its two warehouses, where around 45,000 casks mature, Deanston continues to produce whiskies with refined, distinctive Highland flavors. Originally called Bannockburn, the distillery was acquired by Invergordon in 1972, giving it its current name. After a crisis that forced it to close for a decade, Deanston was taken over by Graver Stewart and became part of the Distell Group in the 2000s. Today, Deanston continues to shine as an iconic Speyside distillery, staying true to its heritage while exploring new aging and distillation techniques.
