Mortlach: the mastered power of Speyside
Founded in 1823 in Dufftown , the Mortlach distillery was the first to open in this now iconic town of Scottish whisky. Named after the ancient 7th century village, Mortlach quickly established itself as a pillar of the region, notably thanks to its triple partial distillation technique, unique in Scotland. This complex method gives it an incomparable intensity and aromatic richness. Remaining family-owned until 1923, Mortlach was acquired by Johnnie Walker & Sons , then integrated into the future giant Diageo . It plays a key role in the composition of the famous Johnnie Walker Black Label . In 2013, Diageo invested heavily to double production capacity, and in 2014, a premium range was launched, including the Rare Old , Special Strength , 18 Year Old and 25 Year Old versions. Today, Mortlach can store over 20,000 casks , and continues to attract lovers of robust, complex and structured single malts. Its powerful aromatic profile, sometimes nicknamed "The Beast of Dufftown", seduces with its full-bodied and elegant notes, resulting from one of the most sophisticated distillation processes in Scotland.
