The cuvée Les Folies de la Marquetterie , Taittinger's first terroir champagne, is distinguished by its exceptional, rich and complex character. This brut champagne is the result of a meticulous blend of 45% Chardonnay and 55% Pinot Noir, sourced exclusively from grapes from the Folies vineyard, which overlooks Château de la Marquetterie, the historic birthplace of the Taittinger family. Château de la Marquetterie, located near Épernay, housed the writer Jacques Cazotte's residence before the French Revolution. It also served as a setting for country festivals, where philosophers and men of letters of the Age of Enlightenment gathered. During the Battle of Champagne in 1915, General de Castelnau established his headquarters at Château de la Marquetterie. Long before him, at the end of the 17th century, Brother Oudart, a Benedictine monk, discovered some of the secrets of champagne fermentation there. In the Folies plots, a green harvest is carried out to achieve optimal maturity and sugar content. The juices for the Cuvée (first press) are meticulously selected. Each plot is vinified in small quantities, and some batches are even aged in oak barrels. Then, the Les Folies de la Marquetterie cuvée is left to age for 5 years in the house cellars to perfect its distinctive harmony. The Les Folies de la Marquetterie cuvée is distinguished by its intense gold color. On the nose, this cuvée exudes remarkable intensity, with very fruity aromas of peach and apricot compote, accompanied by delicate notes of toasted brioche and vanilla. From the first sip, this cuvée offers a generous attack on the palate, both supple and fruity, revealing main flavors of yellow peach. The finish is distinguished by its pronounced and expressive character, delicately marked by woody notes. This is a rich and complex champagne, offering remarkable fullness. THE BRAND
Taittinger is established on the ruins of ancient Benedictine abbeys that crafted the first wines as early as the 13th century. With a composition primarily based on Chardonnay, which gives it its distinctive character, Taittinger champagne has established itself on the world stage, with 70% of its production exported. However, it's not just the essential classics such as Brut Réserve, Prestige Rosé, and Brut Millésimé. There's also the world of the House's exceptional cuvées, including the prestigious Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs and Rosé, created in homage to the legendary Count of Champagne, Thibault IV. In 2005, the Taittinger group changed hands, passing into those of an American pension fund. However, the following year, Pierre-Emmanuel Taittinger, a staunch defender of the family legacy, took over the reins of the House with the support of Crédit Agricole du Nord Est in 2006. With an impressive 290-hectare estate, it produces between 5 and 5.5 million bottles of exceptional champagne each year. Its warehouse is filled with approximately 12 million bottles, demonstrating its constant commitment to quality and excellence. Maison Taittinger was the first to receive a High Environmental Value and Sustainable Viticulture in Champagne certificate. In 2027, it was certified High Environmental Value level 3 (HVE) and Sustainable Viticulture in Champagne (VDC) in 2017. It has also received a gold medal from the Decanter World Wine Awards, a bronze medal and Commended by the International Wine Challenge, and a silver medal from the IWSC.
