JM 9 Years Old Vintage 2014 Single Cask is an exceptional agricultural rum from a single cask, it was selected for the Whisky Festival 2024 collection. It was aged in December 2014 and bottled in 2024. The Fonds-Préville distillery has its own nursery where it grows its own plants. On the 300 hectares of its estate, it cultivates three varieties of sugar cane: reed, blue and red. This version, distilled in the traditional way in a Creole copper column, is distinguished by its generously fruity and delicately vegetal aromas, reminiscent of the 8-year-old version aged in 2016 from the same catalog. A notable difference, however, lies in the presence of empyreumatic notes, which add a mysterious dimension to its aromatic and taste palette. Limited edition.
TASTING NOTE
Nose: dense, heady. Beautifully rancio (apricot, ripe mango), peppery and roasted, the aromatic palette evolves confidently towards more empyreumatic (burnt cane) and spicy (cinnamon) tones. It continues with notes of blood orange and arnica.
Palate: Rich, invigorating. Initially spicy (paprika), tertiary (mushrooms), fruity (mango coulis) and floral (geranium), the taste palette then becomes wonderfully vegetable: tomato, carrot, pumpkin. Oriental, the finish reveals flavors of turmeric and grated ginger.
Finish: Long, indulgent. Taking on the ginger notes of the palate, the taste palette gradually gives way to particularly distinguished flavors of sugar cane and cane flower. Over time, dark chocolate and soot coat the perimeter of the palate.
THE BRAND
The JM rum distillery is located in Martinique , on the slopes of Mount Pelée, Habitation Bellevue benefits from a humid tropical climate and particularly fertile volcanic soils, ideal for growing exceptional sugar cane. Cultivated and selected by the distillery, the sugar canes are crushed in mills less than an hour after cutting; this specificity guarantees the production of a particularly fresh and aromatic cane juice. Distillation is carried out in two traditional copper columns, Creole type. The rum is only distilled at 72% in order to preserve all the aromatic richness of the sugar cane and aged in carefully selected barrels that are previously burned before use. JM Old Rums are very often awarded prizes at international competitions.
