This Père Labat Brut de Colonne rum was produced in strict accordance with the traditional methods developed by Père Labat in the 17th century. Carefully cultivated and harvested by hand, the cane is expertly distilled in copper columns to offer you a unique aromatic richness. Distilled in a column from which it is bottled directly, Père Labat 707 rum is what is known as a brut de colonne.
THE BRAND
Père Labat is the name of the trademark registered by Edouard Rameaux, whose rum is distilled in Marie-Galante, within the Poisson distillery. The sugar refinery to which the distillery will be attached is located on the Maréchal estate, whose first owner was Catherine Poisson. Activities began on the site in 1822, as a supplier of raw materials. In 1916, Edouard Rameaux arrived, already a distiller in Saint-Christophe, where he produced a molasses rum. During the 1920s, he slowly increased the production of agricultural rum. This production did not exceed a few tens of thousands of liters per year, which would be completely anecdotal today. In the mid-1930s, he acquired steam-powered equipment, including a still from Barbados. In the 1950s, he acquired the current distillation column to replace the old still. During this period, volumes increased and marketing took off, which unfortunately was halted by the difficulties encountered in the sugar market. The distillery closed until 1976, when the grandson of the brand's creator took over. Ernest Renault left behind his career as an engineer to devote himself to rebuilding the distillery. Having family ties with the distillers at Bielle, he built cellars together with them, as well as the Vieux Rhums de Marie-Galante company. But the adventure ended for E. Renault in 2000. Lacking the means to develop the business and make it profitable, he sold the distillery to the Brot group, already active in the trading business in Guadeloupe. Père Labat is available in two versions of whites, one at 50% and the other at 59%. Next comes an amber, the Cuvée Spéciale and an 8 year old.
