The 2016 Vintage cuvée from Maison Louis Roederer perfectly expresses the intensity and great concentration of Verzy Pinot Noirs in a spectacularly continental vintage. The 2016 vintage represents not only an extraordinary harvest, but also the recognition of Champagne as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Thanks to a cool late summer, ripening resulted in juicy, ripe, and concentrated grapes. This vintage champagne is a blend of 70% Pinot Noir from Verzy (Montagne de Reims) and 30% Chardonnay from Chouilly (Côte des Blancs). This cuvée, partially aged in oak (34%), brings a gourmet touch to the champagne. With a Brut dosage of 8 g/L, it offers a beautiful roundness. This brut champagne is dynamic, concentrated, and powerful. Its fleshy and vinous texture, with an acidic presence, harmoniously integrates the concentrated juice and freshness. The structure is precise, almost classic and firm, while the fruitiness gradually evolves towards sweet and chocolatey notes, even a light roasting. The finish reveals flavors of concentrated, roasted and candied fruits, always supported by saline and salivating notes. The final sensation is beautifully smooth, generous and graceful, leaving a lasting impression of sophistication and elegance. Louis Roederer's Brut Millésimé is best served as an aperitif or at the start of a meal at a temperature of 10°C.

TASTING NOTE

Nose : On the nose, the intense bouquet of Pinot Noir combines aromas of tangy red fruits (redcurrant) with notes of juicy, sun-drenched yellow fruits (mirabelle plum, vine peach). After a few minutes of aeration, traditional aromas of Pinot Noirs from "la Montagne" emerge, with accents of dried and smoky fruits, combined with some tangy and spicy notes of white pepper.

Palate : On the palate, the champagne is dynamic, concentrated, and powerful. Its fleshy, vinous texture, with a hint of acidity, harmoniously integrates the concentrated juice and freshness. The structure is precise, almost classic, and firm, while the fruit gradually evolves toward sweet, chocolatey notes, even a slight roasting. The finish reveals flavors of concentrated, roasted, and candied fruits, always supported by saline and salivating notes. The final sensation is beautifully smooth, generous, and graceful, leaving a lasting impression of sophistication and elegance.

THE BRAND

Established in 1776 by Mr. Dubois and his son, the house flourished under the leadership of Louis Roederer, who ran the business from 1832 to 1870, propelling it to the ranks of the greatest Champagne houses. This prestigious reputation as supplier to the Tsar was maintained with remarkable consistency. Rather than purchasing grapes, Louis Roederer preferred to invest in acquiring vineyards, meticulously selecting the best plots. In 1876, his son created the first "prestigious cuvée" of Champagne for Tsar Alexander II, which he named Cristal. This tradition continued with Léon Olry Roederer, then with his wife Camille from 1933, and finally with his grandson Jean-Claude Rouzaud, who undertook an overhaul of the vineyard. Since 2006, the Rouzaud family, represented by Frédéric, the seventh generation of the lineage, has been at the helm of Roederer champagnes. Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon, who has held the positions of deputy general manager and cellar master since 1999, contributes to maintaining the house's excellence. The vineyard has been cultivated according to biodynamic principles for over twenty years, with half already certified organic and biodynamic, while the rest benefits from the HVE-3 label.
