RHUM CLÉMENT: THE HISTORY AND EXCELLENCE OF MARTINIQUE RUM
Clément Rum embodies the soul of Martinique, and its history is deeply rooted in the island's heritage and traditions. Founded in 1770, the Acajou plantation, which would later become the iconic Habitation Clément estate, was located in Le François, on the island's east coast. In 1847, the plantation took shape over 160 hectares. Dr. Homère Clément purchased the estate in 1887, after a period of bankruptcy, and established a rum distillery there. This distillery marked the beginning of the production of Rhum Clément as we know it today. Rhum Clément is distinguished not only by its excellence, but also by its connection to the history of Martinique. In 1917, after the requisition of rums from the colonies during the war, a new distillery was built, laying the foundation for the brand's reputation. In 1940, Charles Clément officially associated his name with his rums, a first for a Martinican. Clément rum then became a symbol of excellence.
