Champagne Lombard: family heritage, organic terroirs and mastery of the vintage
Founded in 1925 by agricultural engineer Robert Andrieu, Champagne Lombard has remained true to its name and family. After decades of evolution led by Philippe and then Thierry Lombard, today Thomas Lombard, supported by his father and guided by cellar master Laurent Vaillant, embodies the new generation. The acquisition and gradual management of their premier cru vineyards west of the Montagne de Reims marked a strategic turning point, consolidated in 2022 by the estate's organic certification. Champagne Lombard is distinguished by a rigorous approach to terroir: soils, climate, terrain, and viticultural practices are analyzed plot by plot in close collaboration with partner winemakers. Each harvest is the subject of a tasting of the still wines with these same partners in order to understand and enhance the mineral identity of each location. This in-depth knowledge allows the house to compose blends, particularly Brut Nature, which precisely reveal the balance and depth of the vinified vintages. The environmental commitment is tangible: after experiments with grassing, the House chose to work the soil to maintain the vitality of the vines and preserve the expression of the terroir. The 6-hectare vineyard, mostly in premier crus, is managed according to respectful principles, reinforcing the typicity and finesse of the champagnes produced. This approach makes each bottle an authentic portrait of the soil and the hand that shaped it. The fold-out back label, the House's signature, reflects this transparency and this connection with the consumer: it informs and recounts the care taken in the genealogy of the plots, the vinification and the dosage. Champagne Lombard thus remains a contemporary example of a family house that combines tradition, terroir requirements and sustainable modernity to offer precise, mineral cuvées deeply rooted in their origins.
