About the distillery

Founded in 1821 by William Smith in Thurso, in the far north of Scotland, the Wolfburn distillery takes its name from the nearby stream, the "Wolf Burn," whose pure water was already used to produce the first single malts. From its beginnings, Wolfburn established itself as a major player in the region, producing high-quality artisanal whisky. However, like many Scottish distilleries, it ceased operations during the 19th century, leaving behind a reputation for finesse and authenticity. In 2013, nearly two centuries after its creation, Wolfburn rose from the ashes thanks to an ambitious project led by whisky enthusiasts. Built not far from the original site, the new distillery takes up the torch of this heritage. Equipped with modern stills but faithful to traditional methods, it focuses on long aging and small batch production, guaranteeing a unique character to each vintage. Wolfburn is distinguished by its artisanal approach, favoring slow fermentation, the use of selected yeasts and careful aging in rigorously chosen oak barrels. The distillery works with both unpeated and lightly peated malt, allowing it to offer a diverse range ranging from sweet and fruity profiles to smokier expressions.
