Champagne Francis Boulard and Daughter: Family Heritage and Biodynamic Viticulture
Champagne Francis Boulard et Fille embodies the continuity of a rare expertise, passed down through six generations since the French Revolution. Located around Cormicy, in the Massif de Saint-Thierry, the house was rebuilt in 2009 by Francis Boulard with his wife Jeanne and their daughter Delphine, after a family split, to reclaim and affirm an authentic vision of champagne. The estate rests on siliceous limestone terroirs, cultivated with obsessive attention to detail since the early years of winemaking. The vineyard also extends to Paradis in the Marne Valley, Cuchery, Cauroy-lès-Hermonville and Mailly-Champagne, Grand Cru of the Montagne de Reims. This geographical anchorage offers a diversity of exposures—east-northeast for freshness and south for maturity—which translates into the complexity of the blends. The grape varieties are a balanced blend of 30% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Meunier, and 30% Pinot Noir, allowing each vintage to express tension, fruitiness, and depth. Since the early 2000s, Francis Boulard and his daughter have undertaken a demanding transition to clean viticulture: abandoning herbicides in 2001, converting Cormicy to organic farming in 2004, and then moving to biodynamics certified by Ecocert. This approach aims to restore the vitality of the soil, strengthen the expression of the terroir, and produce lively, dynamic champagnes with great aromatic precision. The Francis Boulard and Fille Champagne vintages reflect this alchemy between family history, local geology, and environmental commitment. They offer fresh, mineral, sometimes saline profiles, with notes of white fruits, dried flowers, and a beautiful length on the palate. The signature is both precise and sincere: a champagne of terroir, without artifice, where each bottle tells the story of the perseverance of a dynasty and the pure expression of a place.
